There are only a few sitting weeks left and given the fact that it sat and stalled for month and months last time they tried to bring it in, it's unlikely they could get it through for January, if it all. Unless they sneak it through which would be highly unpopular. If I hear one more "back in my day we got nothing to have babies " comment i shall scream.

I am so ****ed off about this. I am 27 weeks pregnant, due on 20/1. If this gets through, I'll have to return to work 3 months earlier. I'm not even sure that will be possible, because work is already trying to find someone on a 10 month contract to cover me. If they co tract someone for 10 months, I doubt they'll let me return after 7 months.
    I didn't need this stress!

Exactly. This is what makes me angry. Many women I know have stayed in lower paying jobs purely for the PPL while having babies. It's an emoloyment condition you negotiate, like a company car, a gym membership or share options. Maybe they could also find the women who don't get PPL but get a Christmas bonus every year and not allow them govt. PPL either?

I'm sick of them quoting this "women earning 140k" figure. Most of the women I know, went back to work between children part time and their employer PPL is actually much less than the government PPL.

It is incredibly unfair to put this stress on women. There are only about 3 sitting weeks left and it would be a miracle to get it through both houses in that time, unless they snuck it in but it's highly unlikely. I think you'll scoot in.

Default Possible end to paid parental leave on January 1st

Another thing is that if women are financially pressured into returning to work before they feel ready it could also backfire in that women may just quit their jobs too instead of encouraging them back into the workforce

Gah I'm just so bloody angry!

Things were very different "back in the day". Comparing apples to oranges.

Maybe we should just go back in the kitchen where we belong?

    I despise that comment.

What also irks me to no end is that for years, I think it was about 8 years, women got baby bonus as well as their work PPL and they were not called fraudulent double dippers.

To the "I never got it in my day" comment I like to throw the age pension reality to them. We tax payers are paying their pensions when they retire at 60-65 but our generation will need to work till around 70-75 to support their "early retirement"!! Why on earth can't we then get a lousy 18 weeks when it's most beneficial to our new babies!
