They're not OK but it's OK to unleash a mouthful of abuse at Trump then?

If you are talking about the comments that were from the 7yo - that is not hurling abuse. Trump has nasty comments. And his actions and words are abhorrent.

What I said is not hate speech.

    I didn't say you did.
My point was about exposing children to this then it being OK for the child to go off on one at Trump because he won.
That's teaching them it's OK when you don't like the person.
Trumop hasn't murdered anyone has he?

Apart from that children just shouldn't have that kind of worry in their little lives.

It's an awful shame the Republican voters (some of whom were Dem voters before) have been pulled through the mud in regards to their character, people expecting the worst of them, speeches in Muslim communities saying they've gone back 60 yrs...people expecting violence etc, etc
But today it's all coming from the Democrat side.
Angry chants, fighting hate with hate.
They're out on the streets rioting, one Trump supporter even had his ear bitten off.

They haven't even given the transition a chance.
    More than disappointing.
They're creating the very environment they were afraid of.

Disappointing's putting it mildly. Now he's in, he needs to be given a fair hearing before people go off half-cocked and start doing this sort of crap. We don't even know for certain yet how bad he's going to be - he hasn't had a chance to do anything but talk yet.

I've thought about that a lot, @Phony. I've come to the conclusion that the reaction from the people was inevitable no matter who won.

    It saddens me greatly.

As for kids being exposed, I don't believe that's all on the parents. In some cases absolutely, but it would take some kind of Amish level of living to have been able to shield children totally from it all. And what do you do when kids ask about it? Surely engaging in age-appropriate conversation, discussion of values etc?

I didn't bring up the election at all today, but it was all my students wanted to talk about in the morning. We talked a lot about compulsory voting, whether two-term presidency is a good or bad thing, how diplomacy is important in a globalised world. One of my ten year olds was sad because her parents supported Trump, and she couldn't understand it because of the values they have brought her up with. This is kids attempting to make sense of the world around them and I believe that's such a positive thing that they care.

    I totaly agree.
I was prepared for a Clinton win and I had seen some posts saying they would protest it, I didn't like that either.
It will get out of control if they don't put some sort of restrictions on crowd gatherings.
    10,000 at one protest.

Personally I would be more frightened of 50 million disgruntled republican voters than the other way around...

I think so too, pretty sure I said it early on in the thread.
The two candidates were polar opposites, it was bound to cause some unrest.
Hopefully it won't last long though.

Oh I'm not sure you could avoid it in class if one kid brings it to your attention.

I'm just wondering what is being said in the homes of children that are having such a bad reaction to it.
Not having a go at anyone in here, I've seen it all over FB too.
