And on a lighter note, for some reason this reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer wins Sanitation Commissioner by using a smear campaign then spends the entire year's budget in a month with singing, cleaning rubbish collectors

This is maybe slightly off topic but kind of relevant I guess in this circumstance.

I used to go to church and still have a few FB friends that are involved in church. And are very conservative.

I saw one of them had written an interesting blog post regarding the election (I will add he is Australian). He had written that church and state (i.e. legislation) should be kept separate. In order for someone to be free to practice religion another should freely and equally not. This applies to all things such as gay marroage, abortion etc.

What a win for Trump/Republican majority can mean is similar to previous events in history where religion/conservative beliefs went too far and there were various uprising/rebellions.

This is a time where this could seriously happen. It is not a time everyone will sit in harmony.

When you start taking away the rights of people and the freedom of people there will eventually come a time where it will blow up - literally.

This is why people are so worried.

Really? I here? No one is listening to me.
That's OK. I never meant to sway anyone.
I gave an opinion anonymously on a forum.

There are people on here who know me on FB and know for a fact I am not vocal on FB AT ALL.

    So, again, Holly.
I am not to blame for the outcome.
PEOPLE LIKE YOU. Again, if you're so proud of your opinion and the effect it has, own it. You didn't want Hillary to be president, you got it.

Is this payback for Chelsea Manning? Or did I just get them wrong? I would've thought there'd be no way on Earth they would prefer a Trump presidency.

I want to add another light note. John Oliver. Blame him for Trump. He dared him to run. I wonder whether he will issue an apology to Trump?

I do think he holds grudges. Maybe he just wants the whole government to implode?

Eta. He has specifically said it was not for Chelsea Manning in his press release today.

He has also said he did not want to influence the election.

    That is hard to believe.

His lack of experience on so many issues. His complete lack of appreciating the history of policies and why they exist.

But mostly his unpredictability. Leaders need to be smart, humble and reliable in decisions. He is none of these things.

He is also not even a true republican. He wants to create jobs and spend money which is anti republican.

My heart is broken by this.
    I wouldn't vote for him

I would have note voted or gone for Jill Stein.

    That enough for you?
Or do I need ot sacrifice a pound of flesh?

Not trying to involve myself in this but just a reminder to keep it civilized and polite. I've really enjoyed reading along here and getting all these different perspectives, and I think in the coming days there will be a lot more to discuss on this topic. I'd hate for this thread to get shut down.

It's a highly emotive time for some. Let's cut each other some slack.
