In 1996, I turned 16. I was in year 10. It was an uneventful year. I worked casually at Coles on the registers. I didn't have a boyfriend.

I was 10. I cannot remember anything that stood out tbh. I know I had anxiety by then with frequent panic attacks (I did not know what they were). I was 'dating' a boy (we pretty much held hands and that was it! He was my brother's best friend).

I was 18 and had just gotten my P plates. I was living in a tiny flat with my Norwegian boyfriend who had followed me over here after I had been on exchange in Norway for a year. I was doing year 12 at a private school, and given my circumstances I am surprised that I passed! At some point late in the year I figured out that it wasn't going to work with my blonde Viking so I sent him back to Norway (we actually had a good relationship but he was 10 years older than me and my parents hated him, which makes it difficult at that age).

I was 16 years old and in Year 11. Worked at Woolworths supermarket and met a spunky man there who is now my beautiful DH. Happy days

1996. Grade 12. An awesome year in music. Powderfinger, Spiderbait, Silverchair, You Am I, Regurgitator, The Fauves, Ben Folds Five, Weezer...
Great parties, even better concerts, excitement about finishing school and planning the formal outfit. 1996 was the best!

First year of uni, already knew DH but we had got together. Doc Marten's, heaps of boozing and grunge kind of encapsulated 1996 lol

I was 13 and in grade 8. I had just started at a private high school after going to public primary school and I felt like a fish out of water and pretty miserable for the most part of the year.

I listened to 90s R&B and rap and secretly smoked cigarettes that my cousin stole off her older brother. We thought we were pretty cool

I wore tencel jeans, flannel shirts tied around my waist, platform sneakers and tiny little backpacks (so fashionable )

Other than that I don't remember anything memorable about '96, I was 3 years away from meeting DH though we were just friends during high school and only got together years later in Uni.
