Well, so far so good for DS at school.

When DH picked him up on Friday, he told DH all about his day, including who he played with. This is huge for DS, as he doesn't usually tell us much

Swimming lessons tomorrow - eep! Hope it all goes well

Got to school this morning and the paddock next to the school had cows in it (the school is bordered by paddocks on two sides). We moved to the country from Melbourne 15 months ago so this is still a bit of a novelty for us!

Well, today was day 1 for my Mr.
Spoke to the principal and his teacher for a while explaining some things but then the bell rang and he was off to the library with the class. My older sons best friend, is now my younger sons "older buddy" in class so that's really good.
Be interested to see how it went this afternoon

My DD started on Jan 31st and she seems to have played with all different kids. I figure it'll take time for her to find the one(s) she gets along best with. I don't think it's a 'day one' thing.

    Depends on the kid.

My DD never made friends at childcare. She has 1 friend and a few other kids she's played with at kindy, but that's only because she got to know them through a playgroup at the school. It took a good 8 months of seeing them once a week for her to be able to speak even vaguely clearly to them :P

When we did a school readiness info session last year, the speaker said not to even mention the word "friends" to your child for at least the first 6 weeks, and then to try to let them take the lead on that conversation.

DD has been at school for almost a week and I know there's one girl she's talking to but I don't ask her about it. I ask her what she learned about, if she knows anyone's name, if there was something super fun they did that day - stuff like that.

We are lucky, my son already was friends with everyone in his class as his preschool did recess on the school playground with the big kids, as it's at the school. So his best friend, a kid in 1st grade is there. Our next door neighbour is too, as well as his older brother
