We've had a French wheaten maran before and she laid huge (70g) dark brown beautiful eggs. We have also had a Wyandotte too - very sweet pretty chook. Our old maran and Wyandotte hens laid 5 eggs a week each which was pretty good (we also had 2 frizzle bantams that laid about 10 little baby eggs a week)! The Plymouth Rock is supposed to be a very friendly and follow you around type of chicken and good layers and I think they're very pretty too!
Your DS would love chickens do it @TheGooch!!

My 1yo Plymouth in this picture loves cuddles. Will often snuggle into my neck.

These are my two oldest boys with my 9week Plymouths. Again, happy to be petted.

My other chooks are very flighty and don't like being touched so these are definitely the winner in this house.

    Default 100 Happy Days - #2

Oh I love chickens! We had three but one turned into a rooster so we gave him away then our two girls kept escaping and going across to the special needs ladies across the road who loved them but they let them into their house and the carers kept having to clean up their mess. So we gave them away too.

I'll get more again when we have a better fence :-)

Caught up with my BFF and went for a drive to the hinterland, had lunch and went for a walk. I've now decided that I want to live in the hinterland...wait till I tell DH! 😂

    Day 84.

The boys rooms are both clean and organised. Now to hope they actually sleep in there! Productive day here today, now to do the floors again. Back at work tomorrow, yay!

Send photos so I can live vicariously through your chickens until I can get mine!
@TheGooch @Ahalfdozen here are my new girls not a great photo but they didn't want to come out of the run as they were too busy digging for earwigs haha. The light one is the French wheaten maran, the big one on the left is the Plymouth Rock and the little black and silver one at the back is the silver laced Wyandotte. Still haven't thought of names!
Gooch I have also heard (and reinforced by all the chicken breeders we have visited) that alpacas are fantastic for keeping foxes away we just have a standard coop with a large run attached (they demolished all my backyard flowers in a week last time so no more freeranging ) and we put in a fibre cement floor and bricks around the perimeter so foxes can't dig in.
Anyway enough side tracking from me!

Day 84: hospital bag almost packed (for me), and baby hospital bag able to be packed once the final loads of washing are dry.
