I flew from Bangkok to Cape Town via Singapore and Joburg. I was running thru the Singapore airport and only go to the gate with 6 min to spare. I had miscalculated my days so I was only flying in on the morning of transfer.. So could not afford to miss the flight.. Not something I would recommend.. It it is yr first cycle with donor cycling there is normally a lot more time built in just in case.. So I wouldn't worry. When you get to Cape Town.. All the worry will disappear.. Apart from the couple of visits to the clinic.. The rest of your time you can rest up , sight see.. Eat lots of yummy food and have a mini vacation. I did lots of clothes and shoe shopping for my 2.5 yr old as much cheaper over there. I am back to work now.. Wishing I was still on vacation in Cape Town.

Hello ladies, I am 34 and have just had my 7th round of IVF which failed. My FS wants me to do egg donor in Greece but we would prefer to do it in South Africa. I'm just after some information on please. We also have DQ alpha gene shares and I have NK killer cells. We hope this will help us achieve our dream we are just so nervous about it.
    Thank you

Jojosniss - donor egg is nowhere near as scary/overwhelming/weird as you may feel right now and there are lots of people around who can answer your questions and give you a few tips - you aren't alone by any means on this journey !

I went to SA and can highly recommend it if for no reason other than it is much closer than Greece ! Get onto the Greece discussion board as well so you can compare experiences. From my limited knowledge, the biggest difference is that you get to choose your Egg Donor in SA but in Greece, the clinic chooses for you so you don't get a say. I know there is a FS who seems to always refer his patients to Greece and there has been some discussion about whether he has a connection with the clinic .... I have no idea if this is your FS but maybe you need to have a discussion with him/her about why Greece is his preferred option - there maybe good reasons why for you, Greece is a better option. Of course, it may also be that he/she is just familiar with Greece and not SA.

With your Alpha match - are you seeing one of the Immunolgy specialists for the extra treatment to deal with that as well ? (I can help with info on Sydney based Dr Gamal Matthias and there are others than can help with 'Wazza" in Brisbane, and the Dr in Melbourne too.

Is there any specific info you want to ask about ?

Thank you so much Cathy, our FS is the one in Melbourne who does do immunology and I have also got a second opinion with Dr M we just haven't got that far yet unfortunately. I have already heard back from SA the CFC clinic but I suppose I just wanted to hear of the success stories of people in our boat. Immune issues NK cell issues ect. Also how much? Did it take heaps of tries and every time you need a transfer do you need to go back to SA. Our hearts are so fragile at the moment and this is so huge.
Thank you so much for getting back to me. We feel so alone with this part of the journey xx

Default Egg Donation in South Africa #14

@jojosniss, I had the same FS as you and I headed to SA for donor eggs. It was perfect for us. We now have 2 kids, a 22 month old girl and a 10 week old boy. We were extremely lucky to have had a brilliant donor and a large number of embryos. Sadly, that's not the case for everyone but that's a risk you take wherever you go.

We chose SA because we wanted to choose the donor ourselves. Our experience with CFC was a very good one.

I have elevated NK cells, so I was doing intralipids. I did them in SA and then continued back in Melbourne.

Oh I love these stories Mrs Erin. Congratulations on both your babies. Did our FS have a problem with you choosing SA? Also do you mind me asking did you have a few tries before you fell pregnant with you first bubba? How did you know which donor to choose? So sorry about all the questions xo

I have immune issues as well and did Prednisolone, antibiotics, Clexane to assist. I had my daughter first try at CFC have since had two failed cycles trying for a sibling and going back for our last try in a few weeks with a new donor.
