Default Egg Donation in South Africa #14

    Good luck Minniemin!

I like the relaxed area around Sea Point. I have stayed there or close by the Last 4 times. I always have a hire car so can drive places., clinic is only 20 min away. Would be nice to stay at the waterfront.. But prefer being just by the beach with lots restaurants in walking distance and save the cash.. Even factoring in a hire car. Stayed at The President .. In May for about $90 per night including a fantastic breakfast.. But was closer to $250 per night this thing.. So may depend a lot on the time of the year. Other ladies have stayed in Claremont and rented airbnb apartments .. Handy if you travelling with kids etc. I only booked accomodation about 7 days before arriving so that cut my options down.

When are you leaving midnight01? And minniemin I think you will be here soon right?

I had my transfer today, one grade 1 embryo. The clinic in Durban only does 1 for DE, which I was happy with. My FS in Australia had warned me against getting 2 put in, given the high risk related to a twin pregnancy. I also have some issues with my cervix. The process was amazing though (I've never got to this point before), and they took a little photo for my husband to show him when I get home. But I really felt like God is guiding this process, which I have been struggling with until now. So I have a new found peace of mind. Now I'm trying very hard to rest, just watching tv, but I'm feeling very lazy with all the lying about . Anyway it will all be worth it

I just wanted to thank everyone for sharing their experiences in going to SA for treatment. I have referred to this thread a few times over the past months and have taken great tips and confidence from your discussions. We head to Cape Town next weekend to hopefully fulfill our dreams. Thank you as I'm not sure I might have been brave enough to do this if I hadn't taken such comfort and confidence from you all sharing your experiences xx

Hi ladies just wondering if anyone has had success with an early blastocyst? We had our transfer this morning and up to yesterday there were 8 that were progressing well and when we got in this morning the doctor advised that there were only two worth transferring one at early blastocyst and the other at morula and nothing to freeze. We are quite upset. Just wondering if others have been through similar? Thanks

Hi Kate83 sorry to hear it's gone a bit pearshaped on you - but it can work out. Plenty of day 3 transfers work and plenty of ordinary blasts work, it's just really hard to deal with when it's you who is in the middle of it all. Trust me I know!! I really hope it works for you - and do leave a sample of sperm over there, even if now you think you wouldn't ever go back or couldn't face another cycle etc. right now, it would save a lot of costs down the line should you have to go back (you can go alone, go for a shorter amount of time etc.). But I have everything crossed for you that your early blast is the one!
    Em x

    Hi Kate83

My 2 yr DD from OE was the result of 5 day double transfer where the best was a compacting morula.. Not yet a blast.. So you are still in with a chance. I know how discouraging even using a ED can be. My first one had 12 at EPu with 2 blasts at day 5. My second had 22 at EPu and 11 blasts at day 5. It really is a gamble! Good luck!

Oh the comment about leaving sperm.. Good idea. The last 2 times I have been to SA I have only stayed 4 nights..so quick trip in and out. Last trip was a bit fine though.. I flew in at 9 and transfer was at 12 noon the same day. Booked flights only when I knew lining was ok., on my day 9 scan and bloods... Just in case!

    Good luck for yr 2ww

And don't forget (or be shocked) everyone that CFC are very strict on what they will freeze. In Aus, we tend to freeze whatever looks OK but CFC only freeze embryo's they are confident will thaw and be able to be transferred later. I found it a real psychological adjustment but their argument is that they don't want to bring a patient back on an overseas trip form something they don't believe will have the best chance of thawing/resulting in pregnancy. There is a clinic in Jo'burg that is even stricter but my brain is refusing to remind me of their name.

Sending lots of sticky baby dust for you Kate83.

Just wondering if someone could tell me the cost of gestone in Australia. I've been told there's a shortage in SA & my clinic here are reluctant to give me the amount for recommended 10 weeks. In the past I had progesterone Injections in my tummy. Is there an alternative in Australia? DH is refusing to inject me.
