@HearMeRoar haha ok, I promise I will . Got to have somewhere to share the stories, I mostly feel like a bemused onlooker to my own life

I'm at swimming lessons with the kids. DS1 has moved up a level :-) They whinge every time we come but I told them they have to be confident swimmers because water is very dangerous. So they're ok with that for now.
I'm not really meant to as the idea of the 40 days is keeping sickness and bad energy away from the child. If I go out and catch something, it defeats the purpose really.

    Well done to your ds1!

You're kinder than me HeavenBlue. I'd either be flatly refusing or sneaking out! I bet the tradition was first dreamt up by a man who had no idea what it was like to be trapped at home and not allowed to leave! Especially when you have a toddler! I hope your DP will take him to the park - I know my kids would go nuts if they had to stay home all day for 6 weeks! Which in turn would make me go nuts.

The stupid thing is there's a park across the road from my house, directly in front!! At the moment my mum has been taking him out to play but if DP doesn't take him the other days, I will be putting up an argument because it's just not fair on DS otherwise. I guess I'll cross bridges as I get to them.

My house just couldn't function if I had to stay home for 40 days. I have appointments for Mr4 to do, groceries to get, school drop offs to do hah. The whole house would stand still if I couldn't leave the house.

Tradition is the hardest thing to break.

I get how isolating it is. I also assume 'back in the day' there was a village so the mother was never lonely or needed time out. Unfortunately a tradition like this does not mesh well with life right now.

I hope you get a village @HeavenBlue. Or at least a chance to breathe a bit for a reset.

I hope so too but I'm not holding my breath. I've never had much of a village ever so....

It's very hard though to uphold a tradition out of respect that has no familiarity to yourself or your upbringing.
