    Perhaps try Hurstville. Close enough to access the airport and city etc, close to shops and not too built up

    I'd say south too. Sutherland, Jannali, Gymea etc are all lovely. There is a train line to the city and easy access to the airport.
    Not sure about your $500 a week rent though.
    We live NorthWest and median house is 900k and rent $650 + and that's just a 'normal' suburb, nothing flash.

    Yeah. I'm getting the feeling we are going to be paying a lot more in nsw, I mean the job is ver well paying so we can afford it but it would be nicer to save it for the move back to Vic in a few years. Thanks for the suggestions though. Time to get onto real estate.com and make time for day trips.

    If you could afford the additional rent, try Oatley or Mortdale.

    There are some lovely parks and Oatley park gives you access to some lovely views over the Georges River.

    I was actually at Oatley park on Father's Day, it's a nice park but we didn't really explore it. That will be on the to do list for next visit.

    I grew up in the Hills. At this point in time it will take you easily an hour+ to get into the CBD, or airport using public transport. This may change when the new railway is in, but that won't be for a couple more years.

    You may be able to find something in the lower parts of the Eastern Suburbs. Maroubra, away from the beach had some nice houses when I was looking to live closer to the beach a couple of years ago.

    Have you moved to Syd yet @Tdez?
    Alternatively, you could get a fake passport and move to France.
