I tried the parakito bands and clips when we lived in FNQ and didn't find them at all effective.
We did however notice reduction in a small courtyard play area when we planted citronella geranium, lemon grass, catnip and a couple of other plants which are meant to be repellents. They didn't disappear but definitely a reduction.

All doors and windows are netted, no mosquito enter our house. In lawns, I use kodomo baby powder and that keeps pests away from my kids.
