We do as many as we have celebrations. So if we have dinner with both sides of the family, a cake at each, plus one for his actual bday if it doesn't coincide (although it always has) and one for the party. This year his birthday is a Monday so he'll probably have one on the Sunday and we will do a family BBQ, then a cupcake for his birthday. No party this year as Bub will only be ~ 4 weeks old.

A cake on the day and for every party. Although when my kids are little I have been known to tell them their birthday is on party day!
