I think you are getting confused..

I am talking about eggs and embryos...

Eggs looking very poor at retrieval and embryos graded at A/B/C at day 5..

Different clinics have different grading also..

The way I understand it is egg quality is hard to tell from looking, but sometimes they look "not right"under the microscope before fertilization. Mostly though they infer egg quality from how your embryos do after fertilization. Poor fert rates and poor development on Days 1-3 is often from poor eggs. Poor sperm causes issues later from Day 3-5, though bad eggs don't do well then either. Even perfect looking embryos can be chromosomally abnormal though. The only way to test that is PGS.

Grading is so different for each clinic, you need to find out what scale yours uses. For instance mine grades 1-5 on Days 1-3, where 1 is the best grade. Once they're blasts they grade 1-6 for how developed into a blast it is (6 is hatching), plus numbers for the inner and outer cell mass. So it sounds different to yours, I'd definitely ask which scale they use so you can look up the details.

It sucks that there is so much variation in grading etc. All I know is that my eggs look crap but they appear to create good embryos but then like 80% are abnormal so they think it has to do with my eggs..

Bad quality eggs can still make blasts. I know several people who had good looking blasts but they had abnormal chromosomes. Most of the chromosome problems are from the eggs unfortunately. My friend has been doing ivf for three years. Makes nice blasts that don't stick. Eventually tested them with PGS and they're all abnormal so she's going to donor eggs now. She was only 35 when she started ivf so it's not always age. Totally sucks.

No PCOS. She did ivf for no Fallopian tubes (one ovarian torsion, one ectopic). So we thought it should be straightforward.

I'm having to get my embryos tested @pingc383
Meeting my fertility specialist about it today. I had an "outstanding" looking embryo but unfortunately we miscarried. At 7 weeks we had a heartbeat, then at 9 weeks it had stopped.
I'm a little nervous to test as I fear they'll all be abnormal. But could be just because I'm down from having a d&c on Monday.
I was also told that at my age 50% will come back abnormal. For some reason I fear it will be higher. Tests take 3 weeks to come back so will hopefully get that ball rolling today. It's also our wedding anniversary- not the happiest of years

That sounds theoretically right but sperm is all good. It's probably the make up of the eggs. I have done a bit of research into this and it makes sense... I am reading this bookIMG_1473812477.045241.jpg

Thanks for your kind words @pingc383
We're both heartbroken and off to a counselor together today after we see our fertility specialist.
What does the article say about estrogen priming? I was on menopur last cycle and had an increased fertility rate...I thought the extra estrogen I was on helped.
I also did back to back cycles with a break on the pill in between.

It sucks having to wait to cycle again. It sounds like this FS has a bit of a plan for you tho. Have you signed off to do PGD testing? How long did they say that will take for you?

Wishing lots of luck surrounds us all in these last few months of the year xx
