Default Dr visit needed for ear infection?

Dd1 has been complaining of an earache off and on for a few days. She's a bit sooky at night asking for medicine but otherwise well. I'm not sure if she's bunging it on since I put the idea in her head?
Is a trip to the doctor needed if it is an infection?

The only reason I ask is it's a $72 upfront fee (I'll get just under half back) so don't want to make frivolous trips to the doctors, only when we really need to.

    Thanks.

Eta: she has a slight temp of 37.1

It's so hard when they're little. I would take her as ear infections can get nasty.

Do you not have somewhere they bulk bill under 16? Dr's are so expensive our local medical centre is &90 up front and only $37 back from Medicare BUT they bulk bill under 16. Maybe call around to see if that's an option.

There are a couple of places that bulk bills but the gps can be ordinary and wait times can be horrendous which can be awful waiting with 2 little ones so I would prefer my regular gp. And nope no bulk billing for kids

I've decided to book her in this morning anyway. She's only been to see the doctor once before apart from the age checks so she's been healthy and lucky.

I guess it's something to do lol.

Just a quick update- dd1 does have an infection in both ears. Poor kiddo she's been an angel considering lol.

The doc advised they usually give it a few days to resolve itself and if not then it's treated with ABs so I have a script if she's still in pain tomorrow.

Does anyone know if pain stop is available OTT these days or if a script is needed? She was crying in pain at lunch today and panadol didn't really seem to help.

Poor little poppet! Have you given her nurofen? Maybe give that a go before you try pain stop. I think pain stop is available ott for children over 5 years of age but I could be wrong.

If she's crying in pain at lunchtime I'd be starting antibiotics before it gets any worse. I still remember the pain of an untreated ear infection I had as a child. I hope she's feeling much better soon.

I agree. Ear infections are awful. I had them often and I remember laying on the couch as a child, in pain with an ear infection.
