Ok so I didn't phone yesterday just couldn't face hearing in some ways I have zoned out of things. We had 4 embryos on Wednesday (day 1) but now we have 5 (day 3). Apparently we had a slow starter which only developed yesterday. Some are considered a little behind but I am not letting that concern me as they were checked at 7am this morning and my pick up wasn't until 1pm do they really haven't even reached day 3 in my eyes. Now I need to decide when to ring over the weekend our biggest drop off usually happens around day 4.

On another note when the eggs were sorted for ICSI either our little slow embie and maybe others were seen to have SERC's (smooth endoplasmic riticulum clusters) which apparently show poor chance of pregnancy. I think its darker cells or something like that. Have any of you ladies heard of that?

    Quick update.
i went for egg collection this morning. From the only 2 follicles, FS only collected 1 egg. I was so sad... But just now, I had a phone call from the clinic and they told me that the egg is suitable for fertilisation and they just had done it. They will call me again tomorrow morning to let me know how it goes..
i know that my chance is very small...but still am upset to hear only 1 egg collected. Although the news from th clinic that my egg is suitable for fertilisation has sprung another hope..
when they said suitable for fertilisation does it mean good or great or just ok? I was too scared to ask.. As I can't take bad news...

Oh @Arianasmum so sorry to hear that I can imagine you being so upset, really hoping its a really strong egg and fertilises and develops well. I am presuming the clinic means it is a matture egg and at the right stage to fertilise. Good luck hun x

@Heyside yep i agree its not quite day 3 yet - really was quite a few hours before and it sounds like everything is pretty well on track. The biggest hurdle as you say is from here on so I know how its stressful waiting to transfer day. I cant say much about the egg comment - maybe that egg wasn't great quality hence why its been erratic in its development. Potentially that one is unlikely to make it however like I say, Im not knowledgeable on the topic but it just sounds not ideal. Crossing fingers and toes for you xx

@Arianasmum sorry to hear its not what you hoped for. My last shot cycle I had 1 follicle and 1 egg and luckily it made it to be transferred on day 5 but unluckily didn't result in a pregnancy. All it means when they say its suitable for fertilisation means exactly that. they cant tell much about the egg as to whether its going to work out anyway, I often got lots of comments about my eggs looking top quality and here I am after 11 rounds with no baby so it means diddly anyway. Cross your everything and we will too and thats all you can do unfortunately. Big hugs I totally understand the disappointment. Some cycles are duds and others go really well its part of the IVF rollercoaster. Rest up and try and occupy yourself with something nice xx

@Charlie74 glad you had a giggle!! and not glad you're still feeling like

Am sorry to hear there was only 1 egg there Luv when you were hoping/expecting 2

"Suitable for fertilisation" means what @Heyside said...that the egg is mature and is suitable for a sperm to be injected into it. Sometimes eggs are immature and can't be used because of that. Other times eggs can be abnormal so cannot be used either.

Here's a good link with photo's explaining further:

    it fertilises overnight for you!!!

Thanks Girls for all your well wishes and positive encouragement r.e my appointment

Yes...it definitely went better than I anticipated which was a nice surprise

Thankfully, she and I clicked well together which helped me feel more comfortable in opening up a little bit to her about things. She also had a remarkable ability to get information out of me that I had:

    a) No intention of discussing, b) Wasn't relevant to the "Ex's Flipout" and c) Happened (in some cases) bloody years ago!!!!

Having seen my fair share of "Mindcare Professionals" over the years I understand she's doing it to paint the picture I just admire the skill she possesses to do it!!!

She's had over 30 years to perfect it though, so I shouldn't be that surprised really should I???? Back again same time next week for more of the same!!!

that's great you hit it off & felt comfortable to talk with her @BlondeinBrisvegas. I think sometimes when you're worried beforehand, you go through all the points in your head, so they end up being fresh on your mind and then they can come out easier with the right person. sounds like a positive session in anycase
@Arianasmum good luck for your fert report tomorrow. if it's any use, since we're similar ages, my first cycle was similar. I think there were 3 follies (or 2, can't remember now) only on left side. right side was awol. 2 eggs, both fert & went to blast. transferred the slightly ahead one -> BFN. froze the other and transferred it after I hit 45 when could no longer do medicated cycles & it was a BFP (sadly M/C later as there must have been chromosome issues). but it can happen & I hope this is your golden egg. subsequent cycles had both left & right side working. sometimes the first cycle they're testing to see how you respond. actually, do you mind me asking which clinic you're with since you're doing a cycle 45+? (mine said they wouldn't do any above 45)
@Heyside yay for an extra one. good luck for the next stage.

Thank you all for your encouragement. Feeling so anxious with my one and only..
i am with IVF Australia. The FS has always been saying very small chance for my age, but willing to give it a try if I am up to it.
not sure if this first attempt is unsuccessful he is willing to give another ago. As many said here.. First cycle is a trial and see what works. I suppose I can't keep on trying with my OE considering my age. Well.. As DP says, take it one step at a time.. Then we make decision then. He didn't want to talk about DE yet until final result of this 1st cycle he said.. He is more optimistic than me..
