Default Are all Ultrasound places created equal

    Hi ladies

I know this may sound like a really silly question, but are all Ultrasound places created equal? Does each place perform the exact same thing / have all the same equipment as the next?

    TIA

Not all radiography places are the same as in they don't all offer the same services, but if two places offered a particular type of scan, I'd just go to whichever was more convenient.

If it's for a pregnancy ultrasound - I wouldn't go to one of those places that say they do special gender scans (as in the non-medical scanning places) as I don't really trust them but any legit radiography clinic I would.

Edit to add - if it is for a pregnancy u/s - you could go anywhere and it would prob be fine as pregnancy ultrasounds would be a fairly common type of scan, but I would probably choose to go to a women's imaging place. Just personal preference but I still think most places would be fine.

Short answer is no, they are not equal. Some have newer equipment, some will have staff with a higher level of skill and importantly some just a better bedside manner. I chose somewhere very specific because I consider them to be better. They specialise in complex pregnacy and I was very happy with my choice (even tho it cost more). I can PM you the details if you like? X

No way!! My BIL is national manager of ultrasound in a major company and there are a huge range of ultrasound devices - even within the same manufacturer. And, the skill of the sonographer performing the ultrasound varies a lot. When I had a MMC a couple of years ago I got to experience this first hand. I had 3 scans at a local bulk bill place that revealed pregnancy of unknown location, which freaked me out and I was scared it could be ectopic - so rather than wait I contacted my BIL who rang around the sonographers in my area to get a recommendation on the best sonographer in town (with Best equipment also) and she located the pregnancy immediately. Since then I have always gone back to her, and she gives a complete and thorough explanation of everything she does while she is doing it, goes into a lot of detail and I get results in the spot rather than having to wait to see my OB. I do pay a premium for this but always get a portion back on Medicare (whereas previous scan place was bulk billed, but much less personal and less detailed).

Generally speaking, if you go to a private women's imaging clinic and get seen by an ObGyn sonographer you will get a more thorough scan and more personal experience. They are also qualified to give you results on the spot - there will be fees involved though, FYI.
