My DH doesn't wear them. I did buy him a pair of European style trunks for him for our honeymoon and it resulted in a very burnt top/back of thighs for poor DH .
As for speedos (DTs, budgie smugglers) in general, I think it's a case of if you've got it, flaunt it. Which excludes pretty much most men with the exception of tanned, waxed ripped athletes. I have been squad swimming most of my life though so probably a bit more used to seeing DTs than other people.

I believe in wearing what makes you look most attractive. Most of the population, male or female, simply looks better with more covering rather than with less covering. Some young people would look fine in anything at all, but the majority of the middle-aged or older, tend to look better somewhat covered. If you are in a private area, your own back yard, wear what ever you please, but in public, there is nothing wrong with looking your best. I sound terribly old fashioned. marie.

On this subject, there is a fellow that frequents the beach near my parents place who always wears a thong to the beach - the kind that is just a string at the back and a pouch at the front. He's in his 70's and has an enormous beer gut.
I have to wonder what goes through his mind sporting such a small garment - shock value? Trying to attract potential lovers? Just likes the feeling of the sea breeze gently blowing on his exposed buttocks? Or does he think it's high fashion?
Each to their own I guess.

After seeing my FIL in his budgie smugglers, I am scarred for life. So I am a firm NO to speedos.

I don't take issue, but def don't like them... same way I don't like bikinis, see through swimmers, barely there swimmers, thong swimmers, etc.
