It does not appear that he has done that.
Following on from this thought...... Someone knew they were on their own. The police found out somehow. Why didn't this person go to the children? I know it could have been a neighbor who didn't feel comfortable but geez it just seems unimaginable that anybody would let these kids go uncared for. Even for an hour!

from what I understood neighbours called the police because they were concerned (screaming etc) ...

the neighbours didnt actually know that no adults were present.

Oh. My. God. They must have been REALLY distressed. I mean generally neighbors are reluctant to get involved so it stands to reason that they were hearing something pretty awful over the fence.

I read somewhere that the father was somewhere else. She wasn't going to meet with him. I'm not sure how accurate that is though.

What if that volcano had gone off again? And the step mum was stuck there for weeks?

    Those poor kids

That is SOOOO wrong. Glad the kids have been removed!

My question is why is it only the mother up on charges and not the father as well?

I believe because the father was overseas for work and the (step) mother was left looking after the children. They weren't traveling together or even in the same country.

Oh okay fair enough. Thanks for that! They didn't make it clear. In the first paragraph it said "parents went overseas..." but then I saw that only the mother was beingcharged. Thatmakes more sense!Ah

I just read an article about this, that the mum tried to regain custody.
And that she is 6 months pregnant with her third.

No mention anywhere of a step mother...
