We didn't do a first dance, we had a outdoor, lunch time cocktail wedding. But the other main songs we used for it were Stand By Me - Ben E King (for wedding party going down the aisle)
Pachelbels Canon in D for me going down the aisle (because I'm super original, but it was played by our string quartet so was gorgeous).
Then hubby and I walked back down the aisle when we were done to Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra. Which I would totally recommend as a first dance song. It's beautiful and the lyrics are very sweet.

Are you dancing dancing or just swaying?
I'd personally go for To Be With You by Mr Big but I'm a massive boge who lives in the musical past.
I also like the idea of something older older like Close to You, or ooh! ooh! that song at the end of Mermaids 'if you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, gotta make a beautiful woman your wife' etc.
Do you even remember Mermaids? It was a great movie from the 90s. It had Cher, Christina Ricci and Winona Ryder. They are three actors who were popular last century.

We used acoustic covers of songs we love as it suited our wedding day.
Have you considered a cover of one of your DF's favourite bands/songs?
A girl from work had that sleeping at last version of 500 miles as she walked down the aisle. And then the original as the recessional which was cool!
I've also heard it done with "you're the one that I want" from grease. Then the original as the recessional. There's some amazing covers of it.
If you're not already on it, join Spotify. It helped me a lot when planning our music. And I think you get a month or two free. Use it to find your songs and then unsub!

Just for you I'd dance to it twice in a row, then finish it off with Time of Your Life and More Than Words.
ETA see @Mod-Myztik gets where it's at...

Now. Number 1. I love mr big. Still remember the film clip. However.. "Hold on little girl/ look at what he's done to you/ stand up little girl/ a broken heart can't be that bad/ when it's through, it's through" etc... Aren't they taking about the girl leaving her current guy for "mr big"?
And number 2. Don't insult me. Of course I know mermaids.
