I'm another who doesn't understand why this thread is being rehashed, but I can guarantee you that I'd be a better parent if I had this option.

Everyone runs their family differently. My daughter used to go to childcare 1 day a week when I didn't work. The kids now spend a couple of evenings a week with their dad while I'm working, and usually a morning while I'm out doing whatever the hell I want to. Two days a week I look after the kids while my partner works on projects that make us no income. If I weren't there to look after them, he'd have them in childcare.

As much as we love our kids, they are not our entire world, and we don't need to be theirs.

My son is two and I can tell you that he idolizes his 'papa' and loves spending time with him, he is pretty friggin' obvious about it even if he is only two.

I am really struggling to see the issue of a child staying with their grandparents every weekend, no matter the reason. I highly doubt her daughter hates this arrangement and probably finds the routine comforting. Again, some families value grandparents playing a large role, why is that a bad thing? The more people in a child's life that they love and trust the better.

    I rehashed this thread.

I was reading a magazine and it made me think of this thread.

Bubhub has been absolutely dead lately.

Even VP is struggling to post these days.

I'm glad I've just had some debate to read about.

Judging and gossiping may not be nice by my god life would be so vanilla without it.

I haven't had one single night or day off since 2013.
I'd treasure a granny to take my kids for a night here or there.
But apart from needing a break, my own memories with my Nana are my most treasured. I'd come up with all sorts of excuses to stay at her house on the weekends.
We just had that kind of bond.
It's sad to say but sometimes that doesn't come with the parents so much.
Usually it's another family member who connects with your child better than you do.

Finch and Judd smelt into one person for me, I have no clue or interest in what they do but if her kid is happy, in this horrible world where kids are being raped and murdered, who's business is it what they do?

Who cares, though. Maybe she needs it for her sanity.

You have said you are putting your own needs first by not keeping your child home another year from school.

    How is this different?
She's actually ready for school too. If it was 100% for my needs I wouldn't have done it but her kindy teachers all say she's more than ready.

Maybe we can rehash that thread too, most kids don't need to be held back. Why would anyone hold back a kid that was ready?

I see nothing wrong with it, I'm a little jealous actually!!

I spent so much time with my Grandparents growing up, definitely more than 2 nights per week. My mother was a single mother and a nurse so worked a lot of evenings/nights. Now that my Grandparents have passed away, I treasure the memories of all of the extra time I had with them growing up.

And to be honest, my Mother was never the greatest parent. My Grandparents gave me so much love and guidance, I would hate to think of how I would have turned out being raised only by my narcissistic mother.
