Well my MIL isn't coming to Christmas lunch today as she's still exhausted by making the effort to come to the last 3 Christmas lunches we hosted!

So instead, she will sit at home alone in 40 degree weather with no air conditioning instead of coming here (15 minute drive) for a very relaxed lunch!

No offence to your mil but that's a really dumb decision.

Oh I've missed this thread and some of our ridiculous In laws!

Lol @Curby must have been some Christmas 3 years running!

We are pretty lucky this year, didn't hear from the in laws

Spent 9 hours at relative's house for Christmas lunch. By 8pm 9mo ds was an overtired, screaming mess. I say we're going home, he needs to sleep. Mil says, you know you can't live your life like that (meaning he should "slot into our lives"). Shall I sit here for another two hours while he screams in my arms? Yeah fug off, we're going home. I thought the dumb advice would have stopped by now, but no.

My inlaws are usually pretty good, but they turned up to our house after saying they'd come up and bring dinner, with crayfish and a salad containing mussels and oysters. I'm anaphylactic allergic to shellfish. Have been for 5 years. Are they trying to kill me? I almost ate the salad because I thought it was mushrooms in it.

Mil cornered me in the kitchen complaining that SIL wasn't here in time because of "poor organization as usual" dh says it was aimed at him because he told SIL the wrong time but how can I not take offense when it was only said to me!

ETA: this happens every year and dh wonders why I I have requested separate Christmas next year.

MIL and I get along pretty well now but it hasn't always been that way.

Today after lunch it was just the two of us in the kitchen and out of nowhere she starts telling me about how awful her MIL was. Specifically how after she had her second baby MIL would just show up unannounced and take over.

This from the woman who when I had DD1 would come over unannounced every single day and grab DD off me and refuse to give her back. Like even if she was howling MIL would physically stand between us so I couldn't get to her.

I really had to bite my tongue, didn't quite know how to react when she said "she was horrible, some people just don't know how to behave properly when a baby comes along"

"No, I don't think building inspectors know much about building regulations"

Apparently they only know how buildings are built, not the council or building regulations..
