Ds is 6. He is behind at his reading at school but hasn't had any teachers voice concerns about his progress.
I find him very difficult to explain reading concepts to, and I'm not sure if I should be concerned.
He is cool with sight words/ learning by rote.
But when I try to teach him other words, he just has no understanding of it.
Eg: here is the word 'hen', what do you think this word (men) is?
His answer 'meb'.
Same with other similar spelt words.
He can't sound words out.
But he does know the alphabet and the sounds that letters make individually.
I don't know if it's just him being difficult and not wanting to read or if he genuinely doesn't understand what I'm asking him to do.
So where do I go from here?
His teacher is no help. She offers no info even at meetings one on one.
