Hi all,
I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has successfully accessed their Superannuation on compassionate grounds to pay for IVF.
I know that it is possible to do so through the Department of Human Services, and am just after an idea of what information would need to be provided in order for them to make their decision?
What sort of questions would we be asked? And what sort of written documentation would need to be supplied with the application?
Any tips/tricks I need to be aware of?
Thanks heaps![]()

Hey blossom. There is thread on here in regards to doing this, maybe someone can link it for you. Like all applications to withdraw super you must apply through DHS. Once approved it goes to your super provider for further assessment. They ultimately decide if the funds will be released.

Hi Blossom,
Just wondering if you have successfully accessed your super since this thread?
My husband and I have just started the process ourselves and I am a bit nervous. We've used a company to do it on our behalf.
Like you I'm interested in hearing from anyone that's done this.
B xx

Hi @bubbles21 yes we're using Supercare. Agreed big upfront fee. But I like that you get that fee back if you are not approved. I also started to look at doing it ourselves but it was looking way to hard. So I just thought we don't need any added stress so I'll use Supercare. Will let you know how we go. So far they've been very helpful and thorough xx

Yeah im also considering trying myself first. Can you just tell me, do you know whether you need the 2 drs letters, 1 from gp and 1 from fs? But I remember they mentioned needing a letter from a psychiatrist. Or is it just from the gp and psychiatrist because the "problem" is a chronic mental health condition ie depression or anxiety. So confusing

So far I've had to get one from a psychiatrist and I have to get my gp to cosign his letter and also fill out a form. I will also have to get some from fs too.

Is this a psychiatrist you've actually been seeing? Or if not was he happy to sign the form after one or two sessions? I thought the only thing you needed from the fs is a quote because when I rang dhs they said the ivf isn't the treatment so a fs letter isn't needed. I think that's what confused me
