Glad to hear things have settled. It is a big adjustment for them. DS is in year 1 now, but when he was in Prep, his teachers said if they needed a home day, that was fine. Much better for them to take a day out than be grumpy at school and/or home. They also didn't wake kids if they fell asleep after lunch and let them rest for a while. I think he had 2 days off in the first term as he was just shattered! He's also a bus kid, so is gone from 8-4. Long day. Now he gets a bit ratty the last couple of weeks in term, but we just put him to bed a bit earlier and he copes a bit better.
DD is in kindy and she does get tired too, but loves school! She's been asking when school goes back for the last week! And will not be happy when he goes tomorrow and she has to wait another day
