@Gelati: happy birthday to your DS too!!! Ya, i can imagine how much work it was for you. We had a small party. Even so, it was a lot to organize. No, only the C strain was given. There is a shortage on B strain. The new GP, who is highly recommended by people, suggested me to have DS vaccinated as well. I got the script just need to wait the stock to come in. Perhaps in December. They need 2 doses after 1 yr of age.

Hmmm....we didn't have a MCH nurse appointment for 12 months. Wow...that's a long list of stuff. I haven't thought it through but will just wean him off bottle slowly. I guess we rely on formula so much because it is convenient. DS gets really cranky if he is hungry. We had encountered a few episodes of inconsolable crying after a nap due to hunger. So don't think I woudl be brave enough to do what MCH suggested, ie let him feel the hunger. I don't mind feeding him if it means a happy baby. Less stress for me. Actually, DS doesn't like to be fed much anymore but dosen't want single item finger food (ie, green bean, broccoli etc). I had tried skipping his afternoon snack before dinner. It happened because he woke up around 5pm. It didn't end well......

DS woke up a lot ast night. I gave him panadol assuming his gum hurt, gave him inhaler for his wheeze but he still kept waking up crying. Gave in and put him in my bed -- we haven't' done that for over a month now!! But he kept waking up and cried for an "unknown" reason. As soon as i gave him a BIG bottle this morning, he became happy. Poor him who can't communicate and i could only guess! So i guess he didn't have enough to eat last night when i thought he actually full after he started playing with his food.

Look like your DS is easy to adapt!

Interesting about the snack comment. Daycare is certainly doing 3x meal + snack. They are certainly feeding him a lot and we still let them give DS 2 bottles during the day. He doesn't really drink water so i really don't mind him having the formula. We don't do proper breakfast so their morning tea is more like his breakfast. However, given how early DS wakes up these days, we have noticed that DS needs his breakfast before daycare morning tea time now. At home, it isn't a problem. I still feed him breakfast an hour after the bottle. I thought daycare feeds him a lot but i think DS needs more energy these days. He actually slims down.

The trick question is how you guys brush their teeth!! I feel like it is pointless given that he won't let us wipe clean....it is like we are trying to slaughter him.

@bbhope maybe your DS just has a bigger appetite than our son. Usually for breakfast we still feed him his bowl of porridge but yeh i've moved away from the snack now or more let him snack on his own. So i let him feed himself his own food and then after hes done with that i feed him our food or some of his snack and he continues to eat. He seems to get bored of his own food quickly. So i've kind of merged his food and snack into one meal. If DS wasn't sleeping well i would def be back to feeding him. I don't need the sleep deprivation thanks very much!

Wow shortage of strain b? how did ds go with his 1 year vaccinations?
@Minib you make the strain b sound so scary....panadol before the shot? I'm going to ask my GP about the strain b when i see her next week. We still need to give DS 1 yo vacc. Hes been a bit sick from childcare this week. So hard to find a time he isn't sick. May need to keep him back from childcare next week to give it to him. Then we may need to keep him from childcare the following week if he gets sick from it. Fingers crossed he won't tho.

Yes brushing the teeth is such a hassle. The MHN said they have to watch you do it. So make sure you do it in front of them. make it a routine. Brushing the teeth before bed time and first thing in the morning. Goodluck! DS still screams or bites me when i try to wipe it with cloth. MHN checked DS teeth and said everything looked fine.

@Gelati: we actually don't know how much DS supposes to be eating. We always guess.....we just fed as much as he would eat one day around 6 months and surprised too see how much he could eat! That's when he dropped his night feed consistently. We haven't changed his portion for a long while but noticed him being super cranky after each nap few weeks ago. It only hit me after a week that he just didn't have enough for his main meal. It made sense given that he is older now and active! Stupid mom!

DS missed daycare for about 3 weeks and then the vax. I thought he would miss the 4th week too. Only being told that the 12 months needle side effects normally kick in 5--12 days after the vax. Well, not that it helped because DS ended up with gastro that week. It was difficult to tell what causes what. On day 4, he was sleeping whole day. Up 1 hr at most and not a happy baby during that 1 hr. I don't think gastro would cause such sleepiness. I was starting to worry about dehydration but it was an off day in the end. He was an unbearable baby from day 5 to 10. Screaming from the time he woke up. It could due to him being hungry all the time and couldn't eat much due to gastro, though. He became a happy baby again all the sudden from day 11. No high fever. The other mom i talked to say her son had a high fever (39C+) and cried hysterically for a few hours on day 5. That's it.

@bbhope - don't call yourself stupid, being a first time mum is hard and we all make mistakes. Now you know tho so that's what's important. DS now eats a full rice bowl of food per meal. I think it might be too much for him cos when he feeds himself he eats less and seems satisfied. The good thing is he poops less so i wonder if i'm overfeeding him. Still find it hard letting him feed himself because he can't eat everything we eat which means i gave to cook him a separate meal every time. Much more effort than cooking a batch and freezing.

Oh no hopefully DS is okay after vacc. Oh well it's something that has to be done. We are aiming for next Friday

How is everyone? been a bit quiet in here lately. @Minib - how have you been? busy planning dd's birthday? How is full time work going?
@bbhope - is ds better now since his vacc? Are you thinking of doing the strain b one soon? DS had his injections yesterday. Counting down to day 10, hope he is ok. We still took him to swim lessons today because he hasn't shown any symptoms yet so we thought it would be a shame to not go. Heard it's pretty hot up in Perth?
@Tanej78 - hope all is going well. I'm sure you are looking forward to your first christmas with your bump! Christmas becomes an enjoyable holiday to celebrate again :P

@Tanej78: lovely news!!! So glad to hear your update. Counting down the week?!
@Gelati: no stock of b strain ATM. If I really want, I have to drive 1 hr to a different pharmacy for it. The problem is that they don't let u hold 2 needles so have to run the risk of not getting the second shot in time if supply issue. We aren't in a hurry but would very much like to do it after mid December (the specialist visit). We have time over Christmas break to deal with him. We r still hoping to get in seeing the specialist earlier. Ds now has heart murmur. I am hoping it has to do with the cold etc that he has been having! He has been cranky lately. Maybe teething.....yup some days are hot, some days are mild. Does DS ever get over the sickness from childcare? After over a month of having eyes discharge, I brought him back to GP and the result shows conjunctivitis. No pink eyes or anything so the other GP we saw a month ago didn't think eyes drop was necessary. It really wasn't that bad. That's why I thought could be viral and should resolve itself. Sigh...I feel like we r sending him to spread the bug for a month!!!

I am still undecided if we should send DS for swimming lesson. DH is lazy. Does your DS enjoy it? DS has eczema so am not sure pool water is good for him.
@Minib: how is number 2 plan going?

    Hi ladies!!!!

Sorry been quiet. It's not even because of the birthday party planning. I just feel exhausted after work now. It's been a big month at work and I'm hitting the wine most nights. Lol. Not a good habit.

Anyway, party in 4 weeks. Have a rough idea of what I want to do. Will order the cake next week. Can't be bothered making cake as I've never decorated a cake before. So don't really want my first one to be my daughters first birthday party. Too stressful. Will provide some finger food. Going western style so less work and cooking on the day. I've ordered some helium balloon. Next is to get some decoration, paper cup plates etc. hopefully not too much work. We will have about 30 adults and 10 children.
@Gelati how's your DS after the vacc? Ours isn't for another 4 weeks. Then hopefully the men B strain a couple weeks later during Xmas break. Have to call our GP and ask if they have any in stock.
@Tanej78 wow 31 weeks already. Time flies. Those movements are awesome yeah. Makes you feel so much love and your baby is connecting with you. I'm glad his paternity leave is approved. I didn't even know they can reject it. I always assume it's approved. Have you got a date in mind for the induction?
@bbhope oh your poor DS. He's had such a bad few months. Keep getting sick. How did he get the heart murmur? Is it mild? Don't worry about heart murmur if mild. My DD had it and it was gone by 4 months check up.
@bbhope I think pool water is fine. Are you using some salt based product for his bath? Might help.

We are starting DD at cc early jan. 3 days a week. She's having way too much fun at my mums. Loves it. Doesn't want to go home some nights. Has a good set up with the toys and also cousins to play with. My parents have taught her quite a few things too. They have very strong bonding now. Mum is a bit sad about dd starting cc in jan. But I think it will be good for her to learn from the educators there and play with other kids. It will be good to give mum a break too. She's very active. Not walking yet but she crawls around the house a lot. Non stop. She won't sit still.

Hah this is the month we start with number 2. Got my period early in the month so ovulation should be in a week or so. Wish me luck!!

@Tanej78 - wow 31 weeks! That's so awesome. And what great news DH got his leave approved. I can't believe they would even reject it in the first place? what is wrong with people? I know 1 year old, time really does fly!! I mean look you are 31 weeks...almost time to meet your little bundle of joy. It really does go by quickly
@bbhope - oh still out of supply? I'll let you know how we go here in Melb. What do you mean they don't let you hold 2 needles? as in two shots of the vacc? If they dont, yeh that;s a big risk and pretty silly really. What's the point? i didn't event think of that actually.
Oh no heart murmur? Hopefully it is the cold and not a real heart murmur. Poor you guys i feel like you haven't gotten a break. Yes i think DS is teething again too. Maybe two more on the bottom. He's not had any new teeth come out since 6 came out all at once. So i think it's time again. Drooling everywhere!
Oh DS hasn't gotten over the conjunctivitis yet? poor thing. Are you going to give him the antibiotics? the GP told us to get the actibiotics drops (don't need a prescription just ask the chemist), and if DS didn't get better within a week to give them to him. So we applied warm water wipe regularly and washed his eyes out with saline and luckily it went in a week (ish). We are also lucky with DS's colds (touch wood). He gets better after a couple of days just in time to get sick again from childcare! :/ Tho we have been lucky the last 2 weeks he hasn't caught anything. Hopefully cold and flu season is behind us.
DS loves his swim classes. He doesn't have eczema tho so i can't really comment although a friend at work's son has bad eczema and she has to bath him in chlorine (bleach) to kill the germs? ive never heard of that before but if it's true then swimming should be great. A big pool full of chlorine! We give DS a quick shower after the pool and apply moisturizer to his face afterwards but we don't give him a bath until his normal bath time before bed and he seems to be ok.
@Minib - oh yeh working full time must be so tough. Can you work from home at all? Yeh def buy the birthday cake, it's less stress esp if you are organising a big party. Plus it will be nice for the photos You can practice your cake making skills for her later birthdays
For party decorations go to The Reject Shop and this awesome cheapo store on Swanston street in between flinders and flinders lane. It's down in the basement. They have so many good decorations.
Goodluck with cc DD will love it there. DS loves it. It is really good for them. It's a good variety, some time with grandparents, some at cc and the rest with parents. DS learns all the songs from childcare and the hand movements. He also has great socialisation skills now. Today we went to a big family function and his second cousin gave him a hug and he went to hug her back. Aww *heart melt moment* They also get to do things they wouldn't at home cos it's too messy - like eat with a spoon or fingers, painting, other arts stuff. And they have awesome toys and outdoor stuff. They also have animals, tho we have a dog so ds gets enough time with animals at home :P But yeh it's great for them.

Oooh so exciting. Goodluck minib ! I heard you are more fertile in the first year after giving birth hehe.

@Minib - today is day 3 after vacc. He's been sleeping a lot but nothing else so far. Bbhope said from day 5 - day 7 they have reactions so I'll keep you posted. I'm just monitoring him. But yeh big sleeps, like 3 hrs in the morning and another 40min-1.5hrs in the arvo. And really smelly poos!

Oh yes ds is so fast now too. Crawling around everywhere and so much energy. Thats so great your mum is good with her. Makes a big difference. Is she standing and furniture cruising now? DS still isn't walking yet but i think he will within a month. He's starting to balance without holding onto anything. And when you hold him to bring him towards you he walks towards you. Gosh they'll be even faster when they start walking. Eek!
