We went to Perisher about 10 years ago and the snow was absolute crap - it was all man made, there was barely anything natural. The cost of on the on snow accommodation was very expensive as well as the cost of getting there (came from Qld)
Went to Queenstown a few years ago and quality of snow was much better and overall was cheaper.
Off to Japan for skiing in a few weeks and we've paid $6000 for 3 adults - 8 nights ski in/ski out accommodation, bus to/from airport, ski hire, lift pass etc. Flights are only $400 return each - so definitely worthwhile looking at Japan as well.
