    Default Ultrasound question

    Hi all,

Just wondering if it's possible to see a fetal pole and heartbeat on ultrasound 18 days after conception (4 weeks 4 days pregnant)...?

You won't see a heartbeat until at least 6-7 weeks pregnant

At that very early stage you'd maybe see a gestational sac, but maybe not even that (depends on location of implantation and quality of equipment).

My dr wouldn't even refer me for one until 7 weeks.
For my first ds i had one at what i thought was 7 weeks but my period dates were off due to irregular cycle, and everything measured 5w5days. Could only see the sac through abdominal ultrasound. Opted to have a go with the transvaginal ultrasound and saw the gestational sac, fetal pole and yolk sac. Also saw a heartbeat but could not hear it.

Much too early for a hb. I saw 2 of my pregnancies at 5+5 and 5+6 via internal but I know even that is considered early

…I had the exact experience! Was supposed to be 7+ weeks but measured 5w5d due to a long cycle, saw the (very slow) heartbeat with a transvag US.

I work at an ultrasound clinic and we don't take anyone that's less than 6+4... 7-8 weeks is more ideal as then they can asses everything. Otherwise u have to come back for a repeat scan.

No it's too early. With DS we saw HB around 5+4 but that is considered very early (I still have my doubts on that date scan). Ideally you should be waiting until 6 weeks, and even then it may be too early for a HB.
