Default Postage stamp cost increasing to $1 - will this effect you?

I'd heard the rumour previously, but I got confirmation directly from the local post office today - postage stamps will increase to $1 each on the 4th of January.

I rarely post any mail items, so it doesn't really effect me. Even at work I email pretty much everything rather than post it in the mail.

Will this effect you? It will certainly effect some businesses. I imagine a lot of us will also face additional fees if we opt for paper statements (some companies have been charging a fee for a while, I only imagine more will resort to charging a fee).

I didn't even know what the current stamp value was, so no, I really didn't care to be honest. I appreciate they have to remain viable.

I prefer paper bills as I like to stick them on my fridge to remind me! But paying $2 or so for this convenience is not the end of the world.

I'm not real happy with the new fees coming. I don't send many letters, but send a number of packages as run a small home based business and their whole new system isn't something I'm happy about. From what I understand, we will be paying more for less service. But the CEO will still collect his big fat pay cheque each week, so I guess he's happy to gouge small business and people that still use snail mail.

As a person who hardly posts often (but will in the coming months be posting save the dates and wedding invitations etc), it's more annoying than anything else.
I just bought a new book of stamps last week. It seems every time I buy a new book the price increases; and then I have to use two of my stamps per envelope just so I can post it. So- annoyed, but not going to lose sleep over it.
And I suppose I will try and go paperless, but like a pp said I like to stick them on the fridge to remind myself when they're due. (Eg I just got an sms reminder on my elec bill; I didn't even know it was due/ overdue because I haven't seen a paper bill for it and the email must be going somewhere I don't check very often).

Wow that's a huge jump in price! Aren't they currently 70c? We don't use a lot of stamps so it probably won't make much of a difference here. Though it will make me reconsider sending out hard copy invitations for birthday parties etc.

It is a huge disadvantage when I have signed up to a direct selling company and currently post out samples to customers especially for online parties. I might send out 10 for a party and only get a few orders from that so it would definitely cut into any profits.

That's correct, so it is a pretty sharp increase.

    That's over a 40% increase!

I do understand why they are increasing it though. But they could have spread the increase over a longer period of time!

Don't use 2! You should be able to get some 30cent stamps. I've done that before when I've had some of the old price stamps left
