My DS is almost 4 and has absolutely zero interest in counting or letters. He will listen to a story but as soon as it's finished he wants to run off and play.
I'm not in the slightest bit concerned if he can read or write before he goes to prep in 2017. They learn a letter and a number each week. They get pushed so hard at school I'm quite happy for him to be doing this own thing right now.
