I told a few friends about IVF but that was it. There is a whole group of acquaintances who I am sure would love to have something new to gossip about but they are getting nothing from me.
On a sideline I met a lady when I was in Western Samoa years ago who was 60 with a four year old. No IVF there. I have seen their hospital. They have x-ray and that's it. No u/s. No fertility docs. She didn't look like she had money enough for that stuff anyway. I guess it does happen... but then someone wins the lottery each week too. It's just not my luck.

I think donor eggs IS a private matter and no one needs to know. Having said that I'll be pretty open about it (if I am lucky enough to get that far!)
relative/nosy workmate :- "That's good going to have a child at 44"
me:- "Yeah, we went through 9 rounds of IVF and used donor eggs" etc
I think it'd be a conversation starter or killer that's for sure.
I don't have a problem with people knowing before the kid does. Adopted children don't understand their heritage before everyone else. Unless the adoption has been hidden from everyone which would be pretty OTT these days.

My manager knows only cause i didnt want her to think i was job hunting with all of the appts. I just said we are undergoing fertility treatment so still quite vague. Weve been very quiet among our friends and only orob 3-4 friends knew we were doing ivf.

To be honest, I didn't think I would tell anyone outside our close family & friends about doing ivf, but recently had friends say "oh, that must have been a surprise!" And I couldn't help but tell them that it wasn't, as we've been doing ivf for 2 years. I said to DH later , hope he didn't mind me saying anything, but I didn't want them thinking I was too stupid to have my birth control sorted.

JulieMalooley Ah, I'm warming to it. Actually a little disappointed to be stimming for an FET and not my own bumper crop. (I usually got good follicle and egg numbers, so I would have liked this bit) It's the make or break round so kinda dreading it really. This one's going to have a hard landing.
