Currently we're within 5 mins of good friends and 45min from our closest family. So we'd be looking at going to 15-30min from friends, not much difference for family.

Our current house is a small 4br house with one small living area. It's ok now as our kids are little, but we'll outgrow it in a few years. No option to extend, it's a tiny block.

If we went to another area it would mean a bigger house and still a nice area, about the same as this one, just a little further out and slightly less convenient.

We love our location and wish we could just extend this house but it's not an option.

    Default Would you rather...

For me, in your situation it wouldn't matter about how far from friends/family I was as half an hour is nothing.

It would totally depend on the area you were thinking of moving to. Is it a nice area?

I would be happy to live further away from friends if it meant I was closer to things like the city and the beach. But in no way would I move further away for a perfect house to be even further away from those things.

We're already 35km from the city (although outside of peak hour it's only about half an hour by car as we're close to the motorway). The other area is a little further away and also a nice area - good schools, parks, facilities, low crime/social issues etc. Both areas are full of young families.

I think I am most concerned about moving further away from friends. They have been a huge part of my support network and I love having them so close.

I think lifestyle is the most important thing. Which option gives you the best lifestyle? We're in a teeny tiny small house but the location is perfect for our lifestyle. Close to friends, shops, work, good schools. I wouldn't compromise that for a bigger house.

I would pick location every time. The perfect house won't feel perfect for long if you're further away from your support network.

If you "out grow" the house and move down the track anyway, wouldnt it be better to do it now? That way you can form new friendships and create a support base and still retain your current one.
