    Default Good at cleaning? Help!

It looks like DD had a stealthy wee accident right next to our play mat. I found it yesterday but I suspect it was at least a day or two old, so when I lifted the mat it stank like ammonia.

I cleaned the tiles etc and took the mat outside (it's one of those expensive bubba mats), hosed it down then scrubbed with disinfectant. But it still smells! It has clearly soaked into the mat. How do it get rid of the smell?? It's such an expensive mat, I can't chuck it!

Not sure how to clean it but leaving it in the sun will help disinfect it. The UV light will help kill any bacteria. Maybe try baking soda as well as that is supposed to absorb odours.

I used eucalyptus oil on ours. It seemed to help.

I know when my puppy peed on the mat, I used soda water and a towel to help lift the wee, then covered it in baking soda until it dried. I couldn't smell it once I vacuumed it off.

Thanks for the tips! I had some eucalyptus oil in the laundry so I have scrubbed the smelly part of the mat with hot water and eucalyptus oil - hopefully that helps! I think the fact it went undiscovered for a day or two means it's has really soaked through.

She must have done the wee right on the edge of the mat, the puddle was underneath it! So gross.

BioZet Laundry detergent- it's enzyme based so removes that ammonia smell. When I was a vet nurse we used it to remove the smell of cat urine off towels/clothes etc.

You could make up a water mix with it - sponge on, sponge off, remove excess moisture with towel & leave to dry.

    Best of luck!
