I've read some steam mops can be used on carpets. How do they actually clean the carpet? Do they do a good job?

Steam mop on carpets?

I dont think they clean the carpet as such. More just 'sanitise' it with the steam. Atleast thats what I've always thought with mine as it came with an attachment that helps it to glide over the carpet. I don't think it would be any good at actually cleaning it.
