Default global developmental delay need developmental Peadiatrician

DS has been diagnosed with global developmental delay. He is 2.5 years and has difficulty with talking, socialising and understanding messages.

We have been asked to see a developmental peadiatrician but the specialist we were referred in Perth has a huge wait. We need to wait nearly a year.

I want some help to find a good developmental peadiatrician in Perth. Happy to travel, but we are based SoR.

    Thanks

I hope you get some help sooner than a year! Can you go privately?
I know it costs more but one visit might help you get things rolling.
My daughter is three in November and has GDD.

    Default Private

Yes. The above timing is with a private doctor. Almost all private developmental peadiatrician seem to have a long wait in Perth. Who do you see? Can you guys recommend anyone? Would also be interested to know good speech therapy etc

Sorry, I can't recommend anyone (I'm over the other side of the country), but I thought I'd bump the thread for you in the hope someone else can help.

12 months is such a long wait, I really hope you can get in somewhere quicker

Oh sorry. I'm waaaay over the other side of the country!
But I usually get my GP to call and get an appointment sooner. Or go on the waitlist for urgent appointments. And call every second day!
    I'm annoying like that.

I can't help with the paediatrician but have you tried ringing PMH and seeing if you can get a recommendation from them? They usually have a list of paeds that you could go through and try for an earlier appointment (a one year wait time is ridiculous!).

In terms of speech therapy, Telethon Speech and Hearing is brilliant for assessments and also run playgroups for children with difficulties in these areas. They are based in Leederville so maybe a bit far from you but they are right near the freeway. They can also give excellent recommendations for speech therapists in your area.
