I did read the link - thank you for pointing that out. For some reason I got the impression ING wouldn't have to comply, and I'm kind of stuck because they are my financial institution (?) I could be wrong, I had an awful lot going through my mind this afternoon.
No harm in putting it to them anyway, so I'll call tomorrow to see what they say.

Hope you get the money back asap. What a crappy situation.

Well, I'm pleasantly shocked to see that my money is back in my account this morning
The transactions are no longer showing as pending and my account balance is back where it should be.
So this morning I have a meeting lined up with my 'new' bank to finalise the setting up of my new bank account. I don't know if I should go through the hassle of changing now

Great to hear your money is back! Go with your gut on the change of bank ... if you feel ok where you are stay, if you are even a tiny bit worried change.

I'd be switching too. I had NAB call me one day to ask if I had lost my card. I had been on a trip to the nearest big town and used my pay pass all over town in a short period of time. They checked through every transaction with me for the day. I don't usually use that card often and I don't live in that city so it was good to know they were on to it!

I would consider switching. My bank sent me a text message saying they had suspended my card and please call. I thought it was a scam so rang card services not the number on the text message and apparently the bank had been notified that my details had potentially been hacked from somewhere and had cancelled the card to stop any possible transactions. Apart from waiting for a new card nothing else affected me.

for the return of the money
I would still be changing though. Confidence and trust that they will help you sort things out if things go pear shaped - its everything.

Great news! And I agree, still change. Their customer service was pretty woeful and if it was me, my trust would be gone even though I got the money back.
