As a teacher I've always loved the heartfelt messages way more than a box of chocolate or soap.
I keep them. Seriously I do. The cards that are homemade with a message in it that is personal is a hit with me.
However. .some best gifts have been coffee vouchers or movie vouchers.
Most teachers love stationery. (Generalisation I know). But I've received pens and cute desk things (paperclip flowers. .notebooks...etc etc. )
Love that stuff.
On another note it never occurred to me to get the daycare educators a present last Christmas! 😨 oops.

I got mine plants last year, and did a hand print card with "thank you for helping me grow". Stole the idea off a friend's FB! On the note I then got my DS to tell me something he liked about his teacher and wrote that on there along with a personal message about things I had noticed through the year. I had some tears from the teachers, so they were a hit!

I have just organised my presents for this year (organised as I had a special offer)
I had notepads made with "miss XXX' on then. they are cute and DD's teacher will love them.
She still sees and adores her teacher from last year, so insisted I get one for her too

I usually give movie vouchers to all my daughters teachers. The last 2 years they've loved them! If I haven't had time to grab them I usually get a Coles/Myer gift card.

My daughter is in childcare. These ideas are great. Last year I got a cake in a jar for all her carers.

Sorry to derail but I have a question about childcare. My son has two main carers. Do I just buy those two a gift or should I buy all the carers that have anything to do with him a gift?
