    Default Increasing fitness?

    Hi all,

    Only in the early days of my pregnancy. Am extremely unfit and incredibly lazy and would like to do stuff to help my body with this journey.

    Any tips on what to do to increase my fitness level and general strength?

    Was thinking pregnancy yoga at some point and maybe pregnancy pilates, though not sure if that will be too much given my stupidly unfit state?

    You know I'm nurse already, so endless walking, but I got a fit ball too. I did get it for the last trim to assist dd in right direction, but it can really strengthen your legs. Mine was a Michelle bridges.

    Definitely start easy Shrill, don't want to overdo it! Walking and swimming are fantastic - especially coming into the warmer months! Just avoid breaststroke! There are also pregnancy fitness classes around, both Aqua and on dry land! Avoid anything that raises your core body temp too much, you don't want to cook your little muffin!

    @meredithgrey: I have a surprisingly good diet. Just extremely lazy. ☺️
    hence the good diet to make up for it)
    @M'LadyEm & @Kazza78: i was thinking about walking to and from work for as long as I can (45mins each way, at a slightly brisk pace). Would that be good? Aqua classes could be fun. Will look into that.
    @Pumpkin1106 - would it be fine to do from a dvd? As in, without someone watching to make sure your form is okay?

    Yes it's low intensity. I did PT sessions all through my pregnancy and it was my PT who recommended it. There's a DVD for each trimester 😀

    There are plenty of pregnancy workouts online. As others have suggested swimming and walking are great options and you can adjust the pace an intensity to suit your level.

    I personally found pregnancy yoga more relaxing etc and not a workout as such. Still really great to do, but maybe later in your pregnancy to help prepare you for birth etc.

    I'm still doing regular yoga but have to do a lot of alternative poses as not all of them are safe for pregnancy.

    Prenatal Pilates is fantastic - get to a class if you can afford it or plenty online/apps for this also.

    i walk everywhere so am going to keep doing that and theres lots of free yoga apps and stuff too

    Walking is a great idea since you are not used to exercising before you got pregnant. Ask your doctor on what's the best exercise for you
