Just wondering if any one has had their kids be infected with chicken pox after they were vaccinated?
My partners son came down with chicken pox yesterday. He's 11, so I think he just missed getting the varicella vaccine. DD is 4, so had the varicella vaccine as per the schedule.
DSS has chicken pox all over his body, poor thing. DD, on the other hand has a slight fever and half a dozen spots. I took DD to the doctor today and she was confirmed with having Chicken Pox. However the doctor couldn't tell me how long they'd last or how bad they'd get. The doctor had never seen a kid get chicken pox after having the vaccine, she could only say that the case would be mild.
Has anyone else's kid been infected with varicella after having the vaccine? How long did it last? How severe was it? Did anyone else contract them?

Contracting chicken pox despite vaxing does happen, fairly regularly. It is almost always very mild, a few spots with mild systemic symptoms. You child is no longer contagious when the spots dry out. Good news is she is likely fully immune now My DD also had a very mild case, 5 spots and a day of feeling off color.
Remember that vaxxing for varicella is done to massively reduce severity if contracted and to help protect the community who are at high risk of becoming extremely unwell with varicella.

Yes, 4 year old DS just had chicken pox after the vaccine. It was very mild, 10 or so spots. We isolated for 7 days to be safe but spots dried a few days before that.

P.s. our doc said 15 percent of kids get it despite the vax but it is usually very mild.
