I'm confused - is this per day or for the three days?

Do you know anyone from your kids school you could ask?

I've found a lot of babysitting jobs through gumtree, I've always shown my qualifications and provided references so you could ask for that also and be specific with your requirements.

That's the findababysitter membership fee. For that fee you can post your own ad or access other people who have posted availability. That's the fee for the service they are providing.

I guess you are paying for their hosting of the site, it may be that the advertisers are more serious about the service than say gumtree (not that I'm saying gumtree posters are evil or anything). It may be that a before/after school club is more reliable than a private person in that you're guaranteed someone to be there to provide the service as opposed to a single person who may be sick or need time off?

@RuffledPansy I'm not sure what the problem is. If you don't want to use the service put signs up on a website of a uni, or use gumtree. It's a business so it charges a fee. I've used it extensively and found excellent nannies and babysitters

And yet it is free for nannies and babysitters to join (I'm on it).

I use gumtree instead now. Just be clear about what you want and don't be afraid to delete replies that don't match your basics. Delete is my favourite thing.

So? They want to attract a lot of nannies etc to advertise positions and they make their money through parents paying a membership. it's a business if you don't like it don't use it. I'm struggling to see what the problem is.

Understandably is costs money but I do think it's a bit steep! What does that include? Does the website check credentials of nannies/babysitters that apply? Because If they don't than I don't see how it's different to advertising somewhere else.
