Default Can down syndrome test be done at 12 weeks and ordered by a GP?

I went and saw the GP yesterday who referred me on to the hospital but didn't offer the down syndrome test. My friend said sometimes the hospitals cut it a bit fine so I'm best off to go back to my GP. Has anyone had the test ordered by a GP and can it be done at 12 weeks? I ask because I'm away all next week so won't be able to do it then.

Yes for my first pregnancy my GP did the referrral for a Nuchal Translucency Test. They'll just get you to book it through a scan place. You usually have to book it a few weeks ahead (depending where you are) so I'd ask GP for a referral ASAP.

Yes usually you get the referral from the gp, it's done between 11-13.5 weeks

GP referral. If you would like the full results it's a blood test at 10 weeks (or close to) and an ultrasound between 12-13 weeks

I got my referral from the gp (i did request it though it wasn't just offered) early at 8 weeks and we had ours at 13 weeks. Had the blood test one week beforehand. We went through a specialist ultrasound place, so we paid more, but got results explained to us straight away. We were high risk for trisomy 18, so having the dr explain everything to us and our options there and then was great.
Friends of ours who went through a normal scan place had to wait until they went back to their dr/hospital to get their results.
