I might feel differently when I have an older child, but there's no way my nearly 3 year old is going to bed late without a damned good reason! She gets so overtired and ends up in meltdown mode.

Routine and consistency are essential for both my kids. I rarely deviate from bed times (ds1 at 7pm; dd6 at 7.30) as they are such bad sleepers that they need to know it's bed time at the same time every night or everything goes haywire. I also need some time to myself so I find 7.30 allows me to clean, organize for the next day and have some time to relax before going to bed.
