Our 16 month DS is at daycare and only recently a few very tiny babies have joined his room. DS is the youngest child in the family and most of our friends have children his age or older, so he hasn't really been in contact with newborns.
Today one of the 2 month olds was at daycare when we arrive (didnt even cry and was asleep) and immediately my DS started freaking out and wanted to run out. The daycare teacher told me this morning "oh yeh, did i tell you since last week he is totally freaking out over the little babies, he cries really loud and is so upset seeing them and wants to run away and starts to shiver in fear"
any idea how i can help my toddler overcome this fear, because i am due to give birth in two months time. has this happened to anyone else before?

Not quite so extreme, but my DS1 wouldn't even look at his sister when she was born, and certainly didn't want to touch her. He was 2.5yrs old. I don't really remember when he felt more comfortable with her. When his baby brother was born he was 5yo, and again he didn't really want much to do with him until he was more interactive, maybe 3 months or so.
Someone gave me a doll for DD before she was born, but DS1 took it and made it his baby. Maybe this helped?

Get him a doll that looks like a real baby.
