With my first child, I received paid parental leave. This child I am studying and will claim the newborn supplement, although this is my second child.... will I get the 'first child' payment as this is the first child im claiming this payment for? Or does it still class as second child?

I'm pretty sure since it's your second child, you can't claim the first child payment.

Yep. First child literally means first child, not first claim.
So you will get $500 newborn upfront payment and $500 supplement paid fortnightly.
