For Christmas this year the family has decided to do a bedroom 'make over' for my niece and nephew. They've had a rough year and we think it would be nice to give them their own little escapes.
Show me some pictures for some inspiration. Everyone has told me to get on Pinterest but they usually have ideas that are out of our budget and not easily accessible in my local stores. I would prefer to see 'real' bedrooms.

How old are the kids?

I think it's easier when they're older because they stay 'in to' things longer.
The shelves I bought at Masters and can go either way (there are a few new things added to the decor there too.) Under his bed I found some drawers out of an old built in wardrobe on a local buy, swap and sell FB page and they store all his toys. I did the canvases myself, apart from the Jake one which come with the doona cover (again from a buy, swap and sell page). The others are posters that I just had laminated at Officeworks.
@Zombie_eyes is so much better at decorating than me though lol. She has made some really awesome stuff and know how to piece it all together really well.

My son is 3 years old and I brought Hot Wheels wall decals before I even decided to do that theme. We then went out and purchased a proper hot Wheels bed( second hand) plus also bedding as well for his 3rd birthday but we kept the rest of his room the same just moved things around. My advice would be to decide on a theme and go from there. You cant see it but he has a chest of drawers and also a bookshelf for all of his toys.

This is DSs first bed He just turned 2. I'll take pics of the other side of the room later, but there's a heater, lamp & little chair in one corner. We took out the built in robes and he has expedits for his clothes and some of his books.
