We just put a claim in for our flooring. (It's laminate floating) they have approved it and measuring it etc . Does that mean they will only replace it with that? Or we will get an option sort of thing?
Do you know how long roughly process will take as we are meant to move in on Monday!

As far as I understand they will only replace the damaged section of flooring with laminate that is in a comparable price range.
We almost put in a claim for flood damaged carpet (the flood was from a dishwasher and only half the carpet was affected) but our excess was $500 and they were only prepared to replace the section that was damaged with new carpet, literally cut off the damaged area. It would've looked ridiculous and it worked out cheaper for us to not claim on insurance and replace the whole room with new carpet ourselves.
Not sure how long it would've taken, sorry!

My husband did the insurance work for timber and floating floors for a few years. It depends on your insurance company. Suncorp was the best for covering their clients and if it flows to other areas which are not sectioned by trims etc then they often replaced the whole lot. You can also ask for a price on being paid out so that you can upgrade yourself or add in extra etc if you don't like the choices offered.

Thanks for responses.
It was actually a tenanted property of ours and they ruined the WHOLE floor! Even though I gave strict instructions to dry mop etc all the floor is stuffed! So they measured the whole floor! They also suggested there animals might of urinated.

Call them and ask what options you have. If they agree to cover it, they might offer you a cash settlement (the same amount as the winning contractor bid) if you want a different kind of flooring. It would depend on the company and cover you have.
