Unhappy Concept Clinic Perth - new "low cost" IVF

I have had some pretty negative experiences with Pivet in Perth (the nurses are sooo arrogant and rude) and was going to switch to Concept as I heard good things about them.

Just when I thought I had done my research, and was at peace with going through IVF (blocked tubes) it turns out they have introduced a new type of IVF and seem intent on pushing it on me.

It is called either "low cost" or "standard" and as much as I try, I can't get much info about it. My specialist told me to ask the patient coordinator. The patient coordinator said all she has is a price list (!!!). I'd rather understand what it is before I am ready to talk prices but they seem reluctant to explain.

My main issue is this: from everything I understand whenever you can it is better to get a day 5 transfer than a day three transfer. All studies I could google claim day5 has pretty much double the success rate of day3.

Concept's low cost IVF only ever does day2 transfers. Which leads me to think they would have half the success rate to day5 transfers. They won't answer saying they "don't have enough data yet".

It's all so confusing and I feel so helpless.

We feel like switching clinics again Can anyone recommend a good one that does day 5 transfers where possible and where nurses are remotely professional / friendly?

I'm a Hollywood fan. Planning on going back there later this year for number two. Ive actually stayed in touch with some of the nurses and staff there, i found them all so lovely. And yes, five day is preferable over three day as some embies won't progress past day three so the theory is those that do are stronger.
Good luck and go with your gut, ivf is stressful enough without having to deal with rude nurses. ...they need compassion

    Thank you molros.

I just noticed Koko28 had started a similar thread in January and arrived at the same result (Blasto is better if you can). http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...ost-ivf-Advice

I feel dumb going back to my GP for yet another referral but my gut speaks loud and clear (and DH was quite agitated when he heard about it too)

Hi, I'm going through concept too and this is my first ever time doing ivf for the same reason as you, blocked tubes which I recently had removed. I saw dr Williams and she recommended that we do the standard ivf aswell which I was a bit hesitant about as iv read negative comments about it on the forums etc and we are prepared to spend whatever it costs but seeing it is our first time and we don't know anything I'm going along with it and the whole doctor knows best. She seems to think we should be straight forward as I'm really young and we have naturally conceived before so hopefully she is right, sometimes reading things on the internet is the worse thing you can do hey??

    Thanks for sharing Pomy8.

Yeah same - I said I have budgeted for this and cost is not a primary factor yet he kept pushing.

I'm not a "doctor knows best" kind of girl I guess. I want to understand things myself. This whole episode eroded my trust

Anyway... I am keeping my fingers crossed for you for a BFP!

Fertility specialists of wa at Bethesda. They cater your treatment to you and are fantastic.

That "standard" plan screams money making to me.

Pm me if you want more info xx

NORgirl: Like you, I don't believe "the doctor" knows best person. If anything i have learned in this IVF process is to proactive yourself, do your research. When i advised my friend to do HyCoSy before the IUI, she just said that she would listen to the Dr, who said it wasn't necessary. After 4 cycles without success, she finally did the HyCoSy and found out to have block tubes. Ya....all the IUI money could have been used for IVF straight away.

The intention for low cost/standard IVF is good. It gives people, who really in a strict budget, a chance to do IVF. They are cheap because they don't tailor and do everything by the book. Culture an embie to day 5 requires additional lab effort (i don't know the details but something to do with the environment and solution they use). Thus, low cost/standard IVF doesn't include it. I am not sure if you will also have the transfer/EPU with a doctor on call or your FS.

I personally will pay more and do a tailored program and have 5 day transfer if you could. I am a strong believer of day 5 transfer. A lot of embies make it to day 3. Day 4 is the crucial part of the process. A natural selection. If you end up say 10 day 3 embies from the standard IVF, you better hope that you don't have to spend 9x IVF money and time to get that BFP.

    Good luck!

pomy8: yes, first time is trial and error. Unless you have PCOS which is very difficult in term of dosage, there is no reason a good FS won't be able to start you on a protocol that produces some good quality eggs, especially you are young. In fact, it is very difficult to diagnose further issue like bad quality eggs/sperms by having day 3 embies on your first cycle. Day 5 is a crucial test and whether you can have a baby or not depends on the chromosome and your body.

Bbhope: thanks for that, it's great getting loads of info about everything. I had blocked tubes which were removed recently other than that everything is fine and DH is perfect, we conceived naturally about 6 years ago (unplanned) but ended in ectopic 😔 our FS has been really good and straight to the point and explained everything however it's a lot to take in, she also mentioned blastocyst? Which from what I can gather is day 5??
