Yep - thanks or thank you. I don't know why people treat teaching the words thank you as different to any other word. I don't shorten other words? But I don't expect ds to get them all correct either. Very few adults I know use the word "ta" instead of thanks/thank you themselves so it's just not necessary imo to use different language for kids.

The only practical reason I can see people using it for (other than if it's just in the culture of their family for everyone to say ta), is so their kids can demonstrate very early that they can use appropriate "manners". "Th" sounds are very hard to get so a garbled "ank ou" might be hard for other people to understand! We are signing please and thanks to ds as well so no doubt he will start signing them before saying them!

DH and I aren't "ta" people but we say both ta and thank you to ling. I don't really know why we do both. He doesn't say either yet
