They are very happy with the age of the kidney and it's a fantastic match but it has been taking time for the kidney to "wake up" and begin to function and a scan has revealed a slight issue with one of the vein connections.
I've also been in quite a bit of pain but have seen the pain management team and we'll hopefully get that under control.
I can only see DH for the duration of my hospital stay because of the infection risk but will face time the kids when I look a touch less scary!
I'll have to spend 12 weeks in Perth and have daily blood tests to ensure all my anti rejection medications (that I'll be on for life) are balanced.
Feeling very emotionally drained which they say is brought on by the medications so lots of tears today.
DH and my mum are at Wicked with the two big kids right now but will see DH tonight and I'm hanging out for a cuddle.
Will update you all ASAP 😘😘
Definitely worth missing Wicked for! Try to get some rest while you can. Are you in ICU/High dependency unit or surgical ward? It can be harder to rest in those high care places because of all the noises etc. Take all the drugs they'll give you for the pain. Hopefully you'll start to feel better in the next couple of days when you're up and mobile. Do they have the means to let you play music? You might find playing some music will give you something else to focus on and hopefully will help with the emotional side of things a bit too.

Wonderful news, the recovery sounds pretty brutal but each day will get you closer to such a better life, I'm so freaking excited for you and your family.

Tick your organ donor card guys, this is the result!

Default I got a phone call this morning...

Oh thanks for asking @Cue xx. I'm feeling ok. I managed to get a bit of sleep in between the check ups so that was good. I was all keen to get out of bed and have a shower but it became apparent that I'm still a bit weak for that! But I had a wipe over and brushed my teeth so feel a lot fresher.
I have been moved on to the clear fluids diet so had clear chicken broth and a cup of black tea for breakfast and my golly gosh it tasted good!
The doctors are happy with my kidney and said things are going as well as they could possibly be going.
The pain team have just been and we're still trying to get the right pain meds happening because the fentanyl is not doing a great deal other than making me sooooo itchy!
On the up side, I got some lovely (and hilarious ) cards from my big two and my youngest sent me "the biggest smile he has" so I'm a lucky, lucky girl.
I still keep thinking that this must be a dream. I must admit though, my thoughts are never far from my donors family and friends. I hope that I'll be able to send them a letter in the future to be able to let them know just how much this incredible gift means to me and my family.

I had to share these cards - the go kidney go is from my DD and the one underneath is from DS1 and it's hard to see but he's written "My mum is more precious than gold". Bless!

    And DS2's biggest smile.
