What would you like for a baby shower gift? I remember I just wanted the essentials, not cute small baby clothes !
I am more practical.. I want to buy my sister in law things she will use and need! But mainly for when baby gets a bit older ? Everyone always gives you new born things.
So can anyone suggest useful things for older babies?

Love to dream swaddles, feeding bowls/spoons etc. , bath seat, jolly jumper, bouncer, nappies, larger size clothes-eg 00 and 0. A hat, medication- eg, Nurofen, panadol, gripe water, bonjela. Teething toys.
That's all I've got at the moment

Nice but functional baby crockery/cutlery; a more expensive item such a as baby swing, bouncer or wheely walker; bath seat; toys like a shape sorter or stacking cups. Good luck!

I usually get practical things to put in my baby presents such as
- baby bath/wash
- cute onesie/outfit usually one in 00 and one 0 (I can't resist baby clothes)
- pack of cheap facewashers if they're having a boy (to protect from baby boy sprinkler system! My sister recommended this to me)
- bottle of bubbles for Mum and Dad to toast their new addition
- vicks baby balsam
- nappy bags (if they're doing disposable)
- travel change mat
- one of those multi sensory toys that squeak, crinkle, hard rubbery bits for teething etc
- stretchy or muslin wraps
- "collectible" books, ie the Complete Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. While they can't read them now, it will be something for the child to treasure as they grow up.
- baby hairbrush (I never thought much of it til someone said they love theirs)
- baby thermometer

Terry cloth flat nappies - for spew rags, places over bedding in the cot so you don't have to change the sheets if they dribble/spew.
A set of ikea kiddy plastic plates, bowls and cups

A beautiful picture story book
Very nice baby bath wash or massage oil
Clothes for the season in which baby was born but in a size 1
A nice aluminium drink bottle for mum
A voucher for a birth announcement design
A promise to bring around a meal that mum can reheat for dinner, once a week for the first six weeks
If mum wants to breastfeed I also offer to make lactation boosting cookies

Oh yeah, a nice thermos mug for Mum so she can hopefully drink a hot cup of tea/coffee!
