    Default Phuket resort?

I have booked flights to Phuket for October and have to find accomodation. I don't know where to stay - not too busy, not too quiet. I'm looking at Karon Beach, but really have no idea. We want luxury, amazing pools and close enough to walk to resturants. Any advise?

We stayed at the new Novotel in karon beach in January for our honeymoon, get a plunge pool suite. Was lovely! Also heard good things about the movenpick (or however you spell it!)

I have stayed at both the Merlin Beach Resort and the Holiday Inn ... and the Holiday Inn was better.

It is right in the middle of Patong - but its a huge resort and its really quiet and relaxing (its actually 2 resorts back onto each other, as the Holiday Inn and the Busakorn wing were once seperate hotels)

Being right in the middle of town is great because you are right there for shopping, restaurants and stuff - but the resort being quite big means you dont feel like you are in the middle of town.

Stay in the busakorn wing - its awesome.

We stayed at the Katathani which is a little south of Karon.

I loved it, it's a taxi ride to the busy parts but is like its own little oasis.

I highly recommend it, the spa was heavenly too!

I've stayed at Patong Merlin Beach Resort (pre-kids) and found it to be very family friendly, but also retained the feeling of a couples resort as well. It was in walking distance to the shops and beach, so made for quite a relaxing easy going time.

We stayed at the Ban Thai in 2011. It's right on the Main Street of Patong but has a long driveway and is set back from the street so is quiet. 5 minute walk in either direction will get you to about 20 different restaurants. It had the most stunning foyer, I was in awe.
